I was pretty pissed when the Tabernacle was changed, its change was kind of snuck under the radar. I don't understand it.

Well it's not really worded like anything else. Destroy effects normally come from a particular source, but Tabernacle's wording makes it confusing what is causing the destruction. Sacrifice makes so much more sense.

This is very interesting. Looking up Sacrifice in Legends we find that Sacrifice was used, so was Buried (Creature Sacrifice) and Destroy.

Normally this means that the term Destroy means something different. However :

Cocoon:
Card type: Enchantment

Casting cost: G

Card text: Tap target creature you control and put three counters on it.
Target creature does not untap as normal while it has one or more of these counters on it.
Remove one counter during your upkeep.
During the upkeep phase after the one in which the last counter was removed, Cocoon is destroyed and target creature gains a +1/+1 counter and flying ability.

Oracle text: Enchant creature you control
Enchanted creature doesn't untap during your untap step if Cocoon has a pupa counter on it.
When Cocoon enters the battlefield, tap enchanted creature and put three pupa counters on Cocoon.
At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a pupa counter from Cocoon. If you can't, sacrifice it and enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and gains flying. (This effect lasts indefinitely.)

And

Forethought Amulet
Card type: Artifact
Casting cost: 5

Card text: Pay 3 during your upkeep or Forethought Amulet is
destroyed.
If you receive more than 2 damage from a sorcery or instant source, that damage is reduced to 2.

Oracle text: At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Forethought Amulet unless you pay 3.
If an instant or sorcery source would deal 3 or more damage to you, it deals 2 damage to you instead.

Time Elemental
Card type: Creature
Creature type: Elemental

Power/Toughness:0/2

Casting cost: 2U

Card text: 2UU, TAP: Return target permanent to owner's hand.
Cannot target permanents with enchantment cards played on them.
If Time Elemental blocks or attacks it is destroyed and does 5 damage to controller.

Oracle text: When Time Elemental attacks or blocks, at end of combat, sacrifice it and it deals 5 damage to you.
2UU, Tap: Return target permanent that isn't enchanted to its owner's hand.

2 Instances where Destroy are Errata'd to Sacrifice. However these instances 'Destroy' themselves where as Tabernacle destroy's other things (or makes them destroy themselves). The only thing I can assume is that back in the day you could regenerate from Tabernacle's ability. If there is documented proof that this is how the card once opperated then they would keep it the way it once worked.

I have no idea what you were trying to say in that post Rik :D - does Tabernacle (for the purposes of GP Madrid) make you destroy the creature or sacrifice it?

I suppose it is pretty relevant with the number of lands/stax decks that are bound to be there...

Edit: After looking at the oracle wording it DOES say destroy. So therefore all indestructible creatures will be unaffected and all creatures can be regenerated.
